Elaine is
known by many people not only as the maker of the famous “carrot dog”
and great desserts, but also as an award-winning sculptural basket
maker and loom weaver. She continues to work in her medium, while
working as Pastry Chef and continuing her education towards a Masters
in Library Science.
She has been featured in many exhibitions over the years and completed
many commissions including Art in Public Places and RJR /Nabisco.
Sculptural elements in nature continue to inspire her to work, as does
growing up in the Panama Canal Zone, a major influence in her life.
Elaine has been part of Riverside Avondale Preservation’s
continuing efforts to expand and explore the arts in the neighborhood.
She chaired the Riverside Arts Festival for many years and worked on
the committees in the formative stages for the Arts Market.
To that end she has developed an artisan baking program for Hubbard
House/Community Connections. She feels that by keeping the traditional
baking arts alive and well, new job opportunity’s can be developed for
women seeking new forms of employment and allow them to explore
creativity in the baking arts. She is very excited to be developing
recipes and breads and will be instrumental in bringing these to the
Riverside Arts Market. This, in turn, will provide an income to women
beginning anew. She will stress the importance of using food products
without additives or preservatives and as organic as possible. Eggs and
dairy products used will be hormone free.
